The Mazehouse project has its origins in an interactive TV show we made for the Sci-Fi channel in 2001. It was initially intended to be an interactive drama, but the Sci-Fi channel wanted it to be mounted as more of a hoax. Ever since I've wanted to go back and tell the story we originally intended to - the results can be seen at: mazehouse.ruritania.co.uk.

Wed, 09/02/2009 - 15:35 | by admin
A flash game providing all the thrills of high-stakes surgery without the blood-soiled clothes and law-suits.
Essentially a mash-up of the old boardgame Operation and one of those electrical dexerity tests, the game challenges the player to 'cut round' a series of complicated organs, racing against the clock to earn a place on the high score table. At the end of the game players are rated and awarded a dynamically generated certificate to print out and keep.
Cbeebies Poster Maker
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:25 | by tobias
A poster making application for Cbeebies, designed by Alex at Swordfish, but coded by me. Kids can select a background and images of animals to place on it - they can scale and move the animals how they like and also add their own titles. They can also submit their picture to a gallery for other children to see, email a link to their friends to come and see their picture in the gallery and also print it off, either in colour or in black and white. It's built in Flash, inevitably, with a mySQL and php back-end, passing information back and forth in xml.
Jack Stalwart
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:24 | by tobias
Jack Stalwart is the hero of a series of children's books written by Elizabeth Singer Hunt. Jack is a nine year old super spy who travels the world solving mysteries and thwarting criminals with an array of amazing gadgets.
The aim of the site was to allow the visitor into Jack's world, to become a spy and investigator for themselves. It was also key to include many of the informative and educational elements of the books, particularly features on world geography and culture.
Crown Golf
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:21 | by tobiasI built the the html templates for this site, following designs by Will Richards, to integrate with the back end content management system.
I also developed the various Flash elements across the site, again following Will's designs.
Wannabes
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:11 | by tobiasThis was a pilot for an interactive soap for the BBC. The audience would have a mocked up 'desktop' and would receive video messages from the characters, each containing a segment of an episode's plot. Occassional 'instant messages' would allow the audience to interact with the characters, altering plot outcomes by making decisions.
I was heavily involved in the development of the concept and the eventual show. I helped structure the interactive segments of the drama and how they fitted in with the main plotlines.
Planet Protectors
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:10 | by tobiasPlanet Protectors are a new range of environmentally aware action figures from the Early Learning Centre.
I helped develop the site and and its content. I built it in Flash to Will Richards' colourful and dramatic designs.
The aim was to give the children an online destination that complemented and expanded on the world of the characters.
To this end the majority of the content is held in XML which is then pulled into Flash templates. This means that the site can easily be updated and expanded, turning it into an evolving, living online resource.
Pat and Pals
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:09 | by tobiasThe Pat and Pals website is home to a series of books for very early readers by Colin & Jacqui Hawkins. The main aim is ecommerce, allowing people to order and pay for the books, but it also includes games and things to do.
I built the site templates following designs by Will Richards and worked with Dragnet to develop the final site. I also built and helped develop the 'ebooks' sold on the site, of which more later.
As well as selling printed books, the Pat and Pals website also sells 'eBooks', interactive versions of the printed volumes.
Ealing Studios
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:05 | by tobiasI helped develop, design and build the Ealing Studios website. The site had to work with third party back end editing tools, which I helped integrate into the build.
Henson Creature Workshop
Thu, 07/30/2009 - 07:04 | by tobiasBomb had designed a new site for Henson's Creature Workshop which I implemented in Flash in conjunction with a suite of back-end editing tools that I wrote in Perl. The tools meant that Hensons would be able to update the site easily while still keeping the swish flash front end.
Sadly although the site was fully completed and functional, it never went live due to issues at the Creature Workshop.
