two-minutes.com

two-minutes.com was an interactive murder mystery we staged during the total eclipse of 1999. It was a live online event and, as such, disappeared soon after it had run its course.

I've now archived two-minutes.com at twominutes.ruritania.co.uk - I've hardly done anything to the original content (even though some of the bits I wrote make me cringe now - the bits Finbar wrote are, of course, still excellent), except to trim it here and there to fit it into a very quickly slapped together drupal install. We are missing the video that we originally shot, as it was all encoded as real media and hosted on some long departed Channel 4 server.

The key difference is that the mystery no longer unfolds over time - instead you now come across the website as it stood at the end of the mystery, before the solution was announced - but its a 'fair play' mystery - all the clues are there to work whodunnit and why. I've added the solution in a post in the site forum, just case anyone wants to know.

Originally there was a prize for solving the mysery - a holiday sponsored by lastminute.com. When I rang them up to tell them we had selected a winner, the representative on the other end of the line was surprised: 'Oh,' she said, 'We thought you would have called it off, what with all the horrible murders'.

Well, at least it worked for someone.
