The Big Giraffe and Genius Goldfish Show

Genius Goldfish

It’s the show that’s big, not the giraffe.

This was a short series of tiny animated interstitials for Nickelodeon in the UK. Originally it was going to be a chat show hosted by a Giraffe in a Spacestation (although no one can remember why) but then he had as guests a pair of Goldfish with astronomical IQs and minimal attention spans and they took over.

Nickelodeon loved the Goldfish and wanted an entire series of them, which was a problem, since while I had a lot of jokes none of them concerned short term memory loss. Any kudos are due to the animators, JonJon, and the voice talent, including Bill Nash, John Millington and Sally Hawkins among others.

I created the characters and wrote the scripts.

Does the final animations of these still exist anywhere. Would love to see them…

Irritatingly, Google video wouldn’t let me upload the video I’ve got - I guess Nickelodeon still strict own the rights, although I’m fairly sure they’re not showing them anymore

I worked on the music and sound for that series of pilots. I enjoyed the humor and the whole creative process very much. Too bad it seems they pulled it off the Nick TV website about a year ago. I was never given a copy of the final animations, I only have the rough drafts!
Anyway, it is nice to discover who wrote the scripts. Nice work!

Hey: great to hear from you: glad you enjoyed working on them, too - I think they turned out really well (despite the questionable scripts ;) ) - kudos is due to you, too, really…

I did find some copies of the animations at some point but I seem to have mislaid them again (I was going to upload them here for posterity) - if I do find them again, I shall let you know for sure so you can grab a copy if you want some…
