Idea for a short story
As teenagers, a gang of six friends would go down to a beach where ball sports were banned and play a three-a-side game in the middle of the night. When the time comes that they're all leaving school, they play a final game and then all sign the ball and bury it on the beach in a goodbye ritual. Back in town twenty years later for the funeral of one of their gang, their charismatic leader, who never left their home town and has died young, the remaining five remember the ball and go and dig it up to play a game in the dead friend's memory. The teams are mismatched now but then they discover that there is, somehow, a sixth player among them in moonlight as they play their last game of football.
